I always find that Chinese Mandarin as the most talk language most distorting, as the chinese population alone is abt, what, 2 billion ? That makes 1/2 of the population speaks mandarin. A better coverage of this would be how many countries speaks a particular language, and I would think russian, french or spanish might win hands down.

Basically I think the amount that was derived are mostly taken by people with native tongues, perhaps not truly official language used by them. oOFooi: yeah i agree, Chinese mandarin is slowly becoming a dominant language .... in fact one of my friend say this so confidentially to me before, next time all of us will need to learn mandarin for sure just like english!
